Week 10

Week 10 was packed with fun stuff.  I guess that's what happens when someone comes to visit you.  You can see the whole post after the break, but some of the highlights are seeing monkeys, visiting an inside roller coaster, feet biting fish and the Central Market.

Week 9

We are moving to a weekly format here at the Godbout Adventure's blog.  The day to day is not always note-worthy, so I'll hit you with one exciting week instead of a bunch of boring days in a row.  The weeks will start on Wednesdays.  The reason for this is because the original post starting Week 1 was about a Wednesday.  Therefore, each following Week will start on a Wednesday.

Day 58 - 59

Day 58

Not much happened on this day.  Jaxson and I took Kristy to school and came back home to have breakfast.  After breakfast, we cleaned up a little and stayed inside.  After that, we went to get the car checked out.  The ABS light is on and I wanted to get that taken care of.  It's not a big deal, but I think it needs to be fixed.  We drove the car over and the mechanic was nice enough to give us a ride back home while he checked out the car.

Jaxson took a moment to pose for the camera.

Click past the break to read more.  Day 59 was better, I promise!

Day 57

Today we went to the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) shopping center.  It's another mall, but outside it has a giant playground.  I was running errands in the area, so I decided to stop by and let Jaxson play.

I'm trying out a new blog format.  You'll have to click "read more" or click on the title of the post to see the whole post.  It will help the blog look a little cleaner.  Let me know if you hate it and I'll change it back.

Day 52 - 56

Day 52 - Shipment Arrival!

I planned to stay home all day on this day because our shipment was scheduled to arrive.  They were scheduled to be at the apartment at 9:30 AM, so of course they didn't arrive until 11 AM.  Apparently, our apartment is very difficult to find.  I ended up talking to the guy on his cell phone and gave him turn by turn directions so he could make it.

First, they piled up the boxes in the stairway so they could load them on the elevator.

Once inside, they started unpacking.  It was a whirlwind and I was having a hard time keeping up.  I managed to itemize every box and account for everything.  I was so proud.  Jaxson played with the wheels on his umbrella stroller for about 15 minutes.

Finally, some things to make this place feel like home.  Kristy has a lot of work to do here, but I'm glad for her decorating sense.

Jaxson found his drum from his G-ma, Vicki.  I love this drum and so does Jaxson.  It is hand carved from Africa.

I forgot we packed most of these things.  I'm not sure how I did it, but I even forgot that I packed my guitar.  I was really happy to have it back.

Jaxson's cool chair above.

With all of our boxes arriving, we needed to take ANOTHER trip to Ikea.  I really think we are on the verge of a record for the number of trips to Ikea.  Kristy got really brave and decided to drive on the highway for her first time.  She did really good.  She was cutting people off like a pro in no time.  By the way, cutting people off makes you a good driver here.

Kristy decorated our bed with some pillows and blankets that came in the shipment from back West.  I  like it like this.

Day 53

Day 53 came and went.  I started hanging curtains.  It was a pain in the butt.  I went through 2 masonry bits and still didn't get all of the curtains hung.

The curtains in Jaxson's room are great because they keep out the sun during nap time.

Jaxson and I took a trip up to Kristy's school because she was working late that night and I made her some spaghetti.  These fish are from her school.

Day 54

I was excited for day 54 because the iPad was finally ready.  Jaxson and I drove up to the Mid Valley Mega Mall again and this time I took my time looking around.

I spotted a Mickey Mouse exhibit right in the middle of the mall on the 3rd floor.

Giant Mickey

Tron Mickey

Pirates of the Caribbean Mickey

Spiderman Mickey

When I got back home I hung the last curtain to complete the living room.

Day 55

We visited the River Walk on Day 55.  It was fun and we got to talk to a lot of the teachers who have families and little kids at the school.  I only got one picture on my phone so enjoy.  If you look really closely you can see some monkeys.  They started getting aggressive so we had to leave.  I thought I was going to have to wrestle a monkey.  Even though I'm sure I would incur some cuts and scrapes, I think I would win in a fight with a monkey.

Later that day, Kristy had to go into her classroom to finalize some lesson plans.  Jaxson and I stayed home.  I wanted him to be able to color, but I didn't want crayon all over the place.  So, I devised this "coloring chair".  Basically, I put paper on his high chair.

Day 56

On Day 56 we went to the Pavilion Mall for some lunch and light shopping.  We needed a few things for dinner and for Kristy's classroom.  We found a little Japanese grill place downstairs in the mall.  It was called Teppan-Yaki.  It was so-so and we probably won't eat there again.  Our favorite spot, Din Tai Fung was booked and we were too hungry to wait.  Next time.

They cook in front of you and then place your food on tin foil on the edge of the cooking surface.

I was surprised that Jaxson liked the bean sprouts.  He just kept wanting more.

Hmmmm...                   Okay, just a little....                  Yummmm....

They had giant kites hanging from the ceiling and a decorative floral display on the stairs.  Kristy and I went to the main floor to get our favorite coffee drink from one of our favorite places.  The place is called "The Coffee Bean".  We love it.

This is a fountain that was outside the mall.

Yet another dessert display.  I didn't get a dessert from here.  Actually, I had just had Chicago Cheesecake from The Coffee Bean, but I wanted more dessert.  I tried a dessert that I had never seen before though.  It was a chocolate and cream mixture wrapped in a dumpling of some sort.  I was not expecting the dumpling taste so it threw me off a bit.  I didn't finish the rest of the dessert after the first bite.  My curiosity was satiated.

You will all be happy to know that you are all caught up on the Godbout Adventures!  Hopefully, I can keep it up to date now that I am all caught up too.  It was a busy couple of weeks, but it seems to have evened out now.  Thanks for reading.

Day 49 - 51

Day 49, Sunday, started like this...(click on the video to play)

We don't know who taught Jaxson that singing means you spin in circles with your eyes closed, but it is hilarious.

We didn't do much the rest of the morning.  It was a pretty lazy day and we all got to spend some time together.  Later that day, we went over to our new friend's house.  Robert is a counselor at ISKL and he and Kristy were on a team to come up with a new faculty play.  They decided to go with the "10 Days in KL" skit, which sounds like the melody from "12 Days of Christmas".  They had some great ideas and I hear the skit turned out great.

While the teachers were figuring out their song, Jaxson and I played at their pool/playground on the 9th floor.

Jaxson is getting so big.  Here is a video of him getting in and out of the pool all by himself!

The next day, day 50, was rather uneventful.  Jaxson and I went shopping for groceries, but we stopped by a place called "Secret Recipe" for some lunch first.  I thought the Letter French Fries were really cool.  Jaxson liked the mini chicken burgers.

I can't get over the live fish in the seafood section.  I'm going to bring one of those home one day and cook it, but that is for another blog entry.

Day 51was also uneventful, but I did cook this great cashew chicken.  It was so good.  I also made homemade strawberry shortcake with homemade whipped cream.  Kristy really enjoyed it.

After dinner, it was time for a bath and bed.

Day 48 - City Tour Day

Day 48 was really fun. Scott and Rebecca, the new faculty liaisons, took us on a city tour to some places we hadn't seen yet.

First up was the bird park. It is the largest covered, walk-in aviary in the world.

Here are a couple pictures showing how big the nets are over the facility.

There were quite a few peacocks running around.

I managed to spot the elusive rooster. Perhaps, the most exotic bird seen all day (ps. that was sarcasm for those of you that don't now me that well).

I forget what this bird is called, but we loved his mohawk and red eyes.

Jaxson enjoyed the fish. He calls them, "a-feesh".

The next room we walked in was a parrot exhibit. This was the most fun thing to do at the bird park. You put 2 ringgit, or about $0.60 USD  in the box and you get some "bird milk". The parrots love it and when you hold one of the little cups, they swarm you.

Jaxson wasn't too sure about them. They were really loud and fought with each other over prime feeding spots.

We found some more peacocks and they gave us a show!

We passed under a man-made waterfall.

This is sort of difficult to see, but that is a picture of a spider as big as my hand. The women folk freaked out.

One of Kristy's favorite things. Baby chicks. Really, her favorite things are baby ________ (fill in the blank).

After the bird park, we headed over to the Central Market. We've already shown you pictures from there, but this time we ate at a great restaurant called "Ginger". Great Thai food.

This was fried samosas and a spicy green mango salad.

This was green curry Thai chicken with rice.

Next, we went to a place called Peter Hoe's. I like to pronounce it "Peter's Hoes". Makes it funnier. They have house furnishings similar to World Market. Kristy found all sorts of things she wanted to buy.

Inside Peter Hoe's, I found some more dessert. After the spicy Thai food, I needed something sweet.

After the store, we saw a Chinese Buddhist temple.

After the Buddhist temple, we saw a Hindu temple kitty-corner from the other temple.

On the way back from the city tour, one of our new friends offered to watch Jaxson anytime. We said, "how about tonight?". She said okay, so we decided to go the movies!

We were told about a special screen inside the movie theatre where you can recline in your own private seats and you get a blanket. This is called the Golden area. Kristy is sad below because we did not get to the theatre soon enough and the Golden seats were all sold out. We had to settle for the standard seats, which were still nice.

We enjoyed "The Dark Knight Rises", headed back to pick up Jaxson and went home. It was a great day.
