Day 44 - 47

As you may have guessed, Kristy has been really busy with starting a new school in a new country. Either one would probably be enough stress for one person to contend with, but she has to deal with both. Therefore, all of you reading will be stuck with me, Keith. I will do my best to keep up with the updates and give you good reading material as Kristy has done so well.

Life is too short, so dessert first

I have never been a huge dessert person, but something has changed. Everywhere I go, I can't help but check out the dessert section. There are displays like this at a lot of the places we visit and they pull me in every time. But, since I have the metabolism of a 15 year old, I still haven't gained any weight.

This display came from the Mid Valley Mega Mall at a little place called "The Coffee Bean".  Kristy and I love this place. It has the best hazelnut blended iced coffee (with whip cream on top, of course). Jaxson and I had to take a trip over there because the button on the iPad stopped working. The Mega Mall is the only place in town I could find that has an Apple service center. It was a bit of a drive, but the Garmin got me there just fine.

This was a pretty neat mall. It has a good variety of shops. I'm going to have to take Kristy to this one sometime.

On the way back, Jaxson and I saw something...interesting. This wasn't the first time I've seen something like this. Just watch the video and enjoy some Malaysian ingenuity.

When Jaxson and I returned from the mall, it was time to pick up Kristy from her day of training at the school. We went down the road to a place called "The Bakery". They have quiches for lunch and all the desserts you see above. I'll try to take pictures of all the food I eat because they have really good food over here.

That night we planned to go over to the headmasters house for a get-together with all of the other new teachers. This was a Tuesday night during Ramadan. We set out about 4:30 because the event was scheduled for 5. Ordinarily, this is plenty of time to go about 10 miles. Not that night. We sat in traffic for an hour and a half. Did I mention we had Jaxson and our new friends from New Zealand in the car with us? It was not pleasant. Then, after traffic allowed us to go more than 15 km/h, I realized that the transmission was slipping again because the car had been on too long. On top of that, we got lost in the process. We were only down the street from where we needed to be, but we didn't know that. I pulled over to let the car cool down and Paul, one of our new friends, ran up ahead to find directions. He was able to find where we needed to go and we successfully drove 20 km/h MAX to our destination.

The evening was pleasant, but when you have a 20 month old running around the headmasters expensive house it's not fun. Jaxson was allowed to run around for a minute and I stopped to talk to the headmaster for no more than 15 seconds. When I turned around to look for Jax, he was nowhere to be found. I finally looked outside and he was throwing the big white rocks into the grate you see below. I was glad to be able to leave and go home at 7:45.

Days 45 and 46 were mostly uneventful. On Friday, Jaxson and I took a trip to KLCC mall. We were on a mission to find dryer sheets. Most folks here have no idea what we're talking about when we ask for them. It must be an American luxury item.

Success! We found dryer sheets. I got a box for our New Zealander friends who live in the same set of condos as us because they had never heard of them either.

Will it blend!?

I managed to find something to eat.

That night we went over to one of the teachers Kristy teaches with. She is a guidance counselor at the school and she has a 2 1/2 year old. It was fun to let Jaxson play with someone his own age. Daddy is only so entertaining.

More to come -

  1. Well done, Keith! You make your followers proud! But, no more talking about your metabolism of a 15 year old. It's just not fair.
